The students taught by the teacher-learners have also been anxious about their EEC before we
began the programme and later have written that they do not want to leave the class because they enjoy watching
computer PowerPoint slide shows and learning through technology. Many of these teacher-learners are scared of
English itself and when they come to class their stress and tension can be clearly seen on their face. They
do not participate willingly and it is a challenging job for a teacher-learner to get responses from them. In
addition, they were also scared of technology because everything is in English on the computer. They do not possess
the confidence that they can listen to or read and understand English. But in this programme, as we used technology
as a means to interact with them, we saw them relax and open up and by the end of the programme we could see them
actively participate in the programme.
I had to spend extra time with the teacher-learners in the beginning for offering specific topic
related guidance and at the end when I conducted personal interviews of the students wherein they responded to
questions based on the Portfolio submitted by them. In addition to this while preparing sample materials for the
students or getting self help materials prepared for them by a computer expert [Viewlets] a lot of time needed to
be devoted to the project.
Implications for Future Projects This programme has really been really an
exciting and useful learning experience for the teacher educator, the teacher-learners and the students
taught by them. The integration of technology in this manner has added an entirely new dimension to the teaching
learning process. The lessons learnt from this experience will be useful for future projects.
