6. Facilitating learning has always been a tight rope walking. Teachers need to decide how
much help to offer so that teacher-learners feel comfortable as well as challenged. Teachers should learn to
offer such guidelines which make the teacher-learners become curious enough to search for answers and find
them for themselves. Instead of giving readymade answers the teacher educators should consider giving lists of
books and websites. If no help is provided the teacher-learners will think that the teacher educator is
testing them before teaching. If too much help is provided they will not learn how to learn. Especially in Indian
contexts some of the teacher-learners come from such backgrounds where they have always been spoon fed and that is
what they expect from any learning programme. In such cases teacher educators have to work out such strategies
which are suitable to the learning styles of the teacher-learners and at the same time move them ahead towards the
goal of becoming independent learners.
Conclusion Technology Aided Language Learning adds a new dimension to the
entire teaching learning process. If used appropriately and judiciously with a thorough understanding of its
advantages and limitations as well as the teaching and learning styles of the people involved, it can prove to be
an efficient tool. Neither rejection of all new innovations nor acceptance of everything that is available will
serve the purpose of developing independent self learning citizens. Technology with its potential of hyper
communication can be an ideal tool for collaborative learning, if used judiciously.
Technology has the potential to isolate people as well as connect them in a novel way.
Hence it is necessary to make it possible for teacher-learners to not only take up the responsibility for
self-development but also shoulder the responsibility of working as a group and get involved in collaborative
learning and teaching. Development of a person, institution, state or country cannot happen in isolation. It is
necessary to take others along and gain from others’ strengths. This should especially be kept in mind while
introducing technology to future teachers so that they do not become so dependant on technology that they ignore
the value of people contact.
