The Present Perfect

Games to Practice The Present Perfect

Language Games for Further Practice

1.      Ask the students to work in pairs. Ask them to draw something in their    notebook without showing it to their partner. They should guess by asking      questions like, “Have you drawn a bird?” If the answer is, “Yes, I have.” then further questions should be asked, “Have you drawn a peacock?”

2.      Ask the students to work in pairs. Ask them to think of their favourite actor, sportsman or leader and write the name of the person in their notebook without showing it to their partner. They should guess by asking questions like, “Have you written the name of an actor?” If the answer is, “Yes, I have.” then further questions should be asked, “Have you written Sharukh Khan?”

3.      Divide the class into groups. From one group ask a student to go out of the class. Ask the other group to make 5 changes in class. Call the person who was sent out and ask him to identify the changes in the class. For each correct guess expressed without mistakes, the group will get I mark. For   example the person should say, “You have moved the chair; you have cleaned the blackboard; you have changed your place.”

4.      One person from each group should come to the front of the class and make a statement like, “I have done something which I don’t want my father to know.” The members of the next group should guess by asking questions like, “Have you broken something?” With further questions they should be able to exactly state what the person has done and if they do so they will get 5 points.

Further Activities for Consolidation

Students could be asked to do interactive grammar exercises using multimedia and software like Hotpotatoes'. They could be asked to do exercises available on the Internet. There are innumerable sites for grammar exercises. Students should practice grammar, vocabulary and writing exercises using free materials available online. A few selected ones are given below:
